Doin’ da biz

A great time was had by all at the Guildford Means Business exhibition yesterday. We talked lots, laughed lots and ate lots. Very successful by all accounts…oh, and we showcased our work!

The team are really excited about tomorrow as we have taken a stand at the Spectrum in Guildford for this years ‘Guildford Means Business’ exhibition. This is the second year running we have exhibited and this year we are again situated in the main hall area. Find us at stand number 122 next to our clients Guildford Cathedral and Wizard Video Productions Ltd and our friends Surrey Chambers, University of Surrey, Surrey Advertiser and Guildford Borough Council to name a few.

Last year we had far too much fun, we won a competition for the use of a conference room at The Lightbox, Woking for the day which we shared with Surrey Chamber for their Annual Review.

Come and introduce yourself to us for the chance to win some Champagne and to see our excellent client list and outstanding work of course!

For the past few months Farrow Creative have working with Heidi’s Patisserie company re-brand. This has been a really exciting assignment for us, its not often we get to design wallpaper or pick out paint colours in addition to designing menus and signage. The Petersfield store officially re-opens tomorrow but we had a peek inside and can confirm it is looking fantastic. Definitely cause for a celebratory iced bun!

Graeme Quar & Co ahead of the times

Following a marketing appraisal, Farrow Creative have been appointed to provide Graeme Quar & Co with a new look website. We are really looking forward to working with Graeme and his team, a great opportunity to create a revamped and up-to-the-minute website benefiting from social media channels.

David Hockney’s – A bigger picture at the Royal Academy running until the 9th April is a definite must see.

The main focus of the exhibition is his portrayal of the landscapes around the East Yorkshire Wolds, and our resident Yorkshire “Native”, has confirmed that the viewer gets instantly transported into a field in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside. There is even a whole gallery devoted to one scene painted at different times of the year, so you get to experience all four seasons.

It is not just trees and vibrant landscapes on offer – there are many early works by the artist from his travels to America, such as the pearlblossom highway collage, and also his many of his sketchbooks are available for viewing.

Hockney has developed a reputation of being a little contrary, dismissing photography and film as a medium of art, yet was the first person in the UK to own an i pad, which is now his primary “sketchpad”.

As he has pretty much covered every technique throughout his career, it will be interesting to see which direction his work goes next and we are very much looking forward to his next exhibition.

We stumbled upon a very interesting and strangely named website this week – “Carrot mob”

There is quite a clever philosophy behind this organisation; businesses are invited to take part in socially beneficial campaigns, in return “the mob” reward them by spending money in their business. A great case of dangling a corporate carrot.

A great example of what they do:

412 people joined a campaign in Portland to buy “hot lips” pizza and in return the store agreed to invest 100% of the days profits on an energy efficiency refit of their store. Considering most of the mob said they needed no encouragement to buy pizza, it was a win-win situation all round!

With the power of Facebook, it will be interesting to see how this US organisation grows globally.

Definitely worth a look – http://www.carrotmob.org/

Well this week it seems everyone is talking about the bookstore Waterstones controversially reverting to its original logo after what was a major design re-brand.

We quite liked the new ultra modern logo and branding, putting it firmly in line with its market competitors at a time when the high street is struggling.

Step forward or step back, only time will tell.

Great excitement this week when the preview tickets arrived for the David Hockney A Bigger Picture Exhibition. Wahoooo! (and the invite was beautifully designed too – not by us unfortunately)

Hockney, another one causing great controversy, as he now creates his work and sketches on his i-pad.

Personally I think he is (and I quote) “ace”, plus I have been trying to get my mother to use an i-pad for years, or even a mobile telephone, and she is nowhere near 74 years old, so good for him!

An absolutely scathing review of the exhibition by the Evening Standard, well I will wait and see for myself!

“Give up chocolate for New Year?” We think not!

Our website for Cocoa Moon is now online – http://www.cocomoonchocolate.co.uk

Liz has a beautiful shop in Petersfield, and now a great e-commerce website too. We can also confirm that the chocolate is very good, obviously we had to get some in the name of market research!

Happy New Year!

January 5th, 2012

No New Year blues for us! 2012 has got off to a flying start, with 2 new clients by lunchtime on our first day back. We are really excited to be working on both new projects, so watch this space!

Not forgetting about our existing clients, a big congratulations to Karren Brady who made London’s 1000 most influential people of 2011. We think that’s an extraordinary achievement and well deserved.

We were sad to hear of the passing of the cartoonist Ronald Searle aged 91 earlier this week. Best known for his creation of the naughty St Trinian’s school girls. A great inspiration.

Farrow Creative have been asked by Trinity News South to mentor the LBA campaign which puts the spotlight on the local businesses community and give them a chance to shine nationally. As a mentor we have been asked to join as a judge and help find young businesses that have huge potential. As well as reviewing all the campaign entries and judging those businesses against set criteria, we’ll be asked to share our knowledge and expertise with the three finalists and mentor them for a three month period. We are very excited about meeting with and working along side the business leaders of the future and helping shape the direction and growth of what we hope will be very successful and inspirational local companies.

One lucky business will be picked from the hundreds of regional winners to receive individual mentoring sessions from the LBA national ambassador Dragons’ Den favourite Deborah Meaden.

Guildford College are delighted that their event has meant that a local agency such as ours can work for such a high profile account. Check out the PR.
