Farrow Creative recently sponsored the Speed Networking event as arranged by the Hampshire Chamber at the Langstone Hotel Hayling. Sam and Chris participated in the event with a good number of other delegates and the name of the game was in groups of 3 to network in the space of 1 minute per person – this is quite an undertaking for a number of reasons 1. you have to network! 2. you have to get your pitch nice and succinct and to the point 3. your voice starts to go if you don’t keep well hydrated. The sponsorship involved Sam giving a 5 minute presentation on graphic design and branding at the start of the event and it seemed to go down really well with some good crowd interaction. The event flew by with many a business card given out and received and some great contacts made. Thanks to the ladies at the Hampshire and Chichester Chamber for arranging such a great event, we’d definitely recommend it to other chamber members.

Farrow Creative and associates (the associates being all female and aged between 6 and 10 years old!) spent an exciting day at Vintage at Goodwood, West Sussex yesterday.

Wayne Hemmingway dun us designers proud and the past was indeed in front of us with decades of fun from the 1940’s to 1980’s. We felt hideously underdressed as 1940’s gangsters, 1970’s hippies and 1980’s Diana’s wafted gracefully past.

It was a creative’s dream festival, from the way finding signage down to the extravagant lenticular watch strap wristband. Enamel plated signage, screen prints and vintage books caught my eye. I bought a linen tea towel that had a 1950’s print and got a real rush of excitement at the UCA young designers stall. It
took me back to my days at Portsmouth Art College studying photography and graphics.

We sipped cocktails and took tea at Fortnums, then a fish and chip supper before winding our way back to sunny Petersfield, altogether more inspired and just a little bit more creative…if that’s possible!

On Sunday 1st August, when the people of Petersfield and the surrounding area were enjoying the monthly Farmers Market in Petersfield Square, a group of local women, dressed as members of Emmeline Pankhurst’s Suffragette Movement decended upon the town creating mahem, confusion and quite a groundswell of interest.

This was a reconstruction of the dramatic protests carried out by women in 1913, fighting for Votes for Women and was the brainchild of the Petersfield Museum. Less well-known than some aspects of the Suffragettes protests is their protest against the depiction of women in art galleries and museums of the time, a detail of their story that has been brought to light by an intriguing series of letters revealed in transcripts to the Petersfield Museum.

Farrow Creative arranged the press release for this event and ensured it went far and wide and that it was followed up to ensure maximum results on the day. The results were spectacular with media coverage across print, radio and TV including BBC Radio Solent, great interest from BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and TV coverage on both BBC South Today and ITV’s Meridian Tonight.

We at Farrow Creative like to support the designers of the future and so offer a number of placements the opportunity of a week’s work experience during the summer break. Not only is work experience increasingly being recommended by teachers, employers and government bodies alike as an essential starting point to future employment but it is also a huge boost to a student’s CV. According to the National Council for Work Experience, “the potential impact of the credit crunch on employment opportunities for graduates, mean that the advantages to be gained from work experience will be increased for those students who are able to find an employer willing to offer them such an opportunity.” This summer saw students from TPS in Petersfield and Alton Convent experiencing the studio environment, showing off their artistic skills and bringing down the average age of the studio quite substantially!

Our Creative and Managing Director Sam Farrow was recently invited to be a keynote speaker at a Fareham College Young Chamber Business Conference for local GCSE Business Students by the Hampshire Chamber.

The event held on July 2nd at The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, was to discuss branding and the day’s events included a competition activity during the day where the student groups were asked to re-brand an existing product with the winning group winning a great prize.

Fareham College were keen to invite some excellent local businesses to exhibit at the conference or act as mentors. The idea being that the students would be able to meet the business people and find out what it takes to set up a business, work in their industry, and identify the sort of opportunities that might be attractive to young people in the industries represented.

Sam’s speech went down really well with the tough audience as can be confirmed by the report on the event on the college website. I think to be called ‘interesting’ by 60 + students is about as good an accolade as one could hope for!

You can also see for yourselves as Portsmouth Live TV filmed the event as well as streaming it live on the day. Go to ‘On Demand’ click on ‘Local Reports’ and you will find the film called ‘Fareham College Young Chamber Of Commerce’.

It is probably Britain’s biggest free visual arts event with a record 243 venues opening their doors to exhibit the work of over 1,300 artists and makers.

So if you’re in the Brighton area one of the first 4 weekends in May then pay her a visit and if you’re lucky there should still be some of the excellent work for sale.

Farrow Creative like to support worthy local causes and so were only too happy to help the Rotary Club of Petersfield with their Charity Auction which aims to help eradicate Polio from the world. Having already done a great deal of work in this area the Rotary Club have shown how we can all make a big difference with just a small amount of help. Farrow Creative gladly sponsored this worthy cause and gave up time to design and produce an 8 page brochure for the event. Keep your eyes peeled for these arriving through your letterbox very soon.

The Rotary Club of Petersfield, with the grateful assistance of Jacobs and Hunt Auctioneers, will be holding a charity auction in aid of Thanks for Life – the Rotary campaign to eradicate polio from the world on Saturday 19th June at 2.30pm at Churcher’s College, Ramshill, Petersfield, Hampshire GU31 4AS. At this exciting event you can bid not only on antiques, collectables and jewellery but on a selection of lots, provided by local businesses, ranging from leisure activities to free fine dining. Viewing will be from 10am on the Saturday morning when you can also leave bids for the afternoon auction.

They would also ask you to search your house, attics, and cellars for any antiques, collectables and jewellery or anything that can be donated for this very worthwhile charity auction.

If you have anything to donate please call Ken Isaac on: 07845 215360 or email: kenisaac@hotmail.com to arrange a collection.
