It is the year to celebrate all things British, especially home grown talent on our doorstep! On Sunday we ventured out for a view of accomplished London based artist Gurley’s work at Anise Gallery in Shad Thames.
Her work is a build up of mixed media, which are then transferred to silk screen. Each piece of work is unique, emotional, in-depth and deeply personal.
It was a real privilege to have Gurley there on the day, who was holding live screen printing demonstrations. Needless to say we came away with one of a kind printed T shirts and shopping bags.
One of our favorite pieces was “Lauren” which is a screen print of a little girl holding a red balloon, and it was lovely to hear the story behind the piece. Lauren is Gurley’s niece, and Lauren was photographed on the day that Gurley had taught her to say “Helter Skelter”.
The exhibit is on until the 8th July – http://www.anisegallery.co.uk/?page_id=771
