As designers, we always enjoy working with people who make beautiful things, and share our love of form, function and materials. So it’s been a real pleasure creating a new brand identity and responsive website for Surrey Ceramics.
Surrey Ceramics is the commercial arm of England’s longest-established stoneware maker, Grayshott Pottery, based just up the road from us in the beautiful Surrey Hills. Its clients include hotels, famous restaurants and high-street dining chains; it also produces ranges for major retailers. All pieces are handmade and bespoke.
Following a detailed brand audit, we recommended creating a separate identity for this part of the business, since its customer base is entirely different from the Pottery, which is essentially a tourist destination.
Our new brand identity is clean, contemporary and professional, acting as a counterbalance to the company’s ‘handmade’ USP: this is high-end, bespoke tableware for commercial customers, not a rough-hewn, artisan product.
We designed, built and wrote the new responsive website from scratch. We also commissioned and art directed new photography – an enormous task, with hundreds of products and finishes to be covered – working with a top London stylist whose clients include many major lifestyle magazines. The shoot included images of employees at work, emphasising the human touch that makes every piece unique.
The new branding and site really elevate and differentiate Surrey Ceramics, and give it a great competitive advantage in a market dominated by generic, mass-produced tableware. To see the new site, click here.
